Canada’s Wonderland water park partially reopens after weekend fire – Toronto

Canada’s Wonderland water park reopened on Tuesday after a fire over the long weekend caused it to close on the Civic Holiday.
A statement from the park says Splash Works is open again, although five water attractions remain closed.
In an earlier statement, the park said a « small structural fire » started around 10:45 p.m. Sunday. He said a waterslide caught fire during the incident.

« As Splash Works had closed at 6 p.m., the affected areas of the park were empty of guests and the remaining associates were evacuated, » the statement said.
« Emergency crews responded, no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated. »
York Police said the park had been evacuated « as a precaution » due to the billowing smoke.
A York Regional Police spokesperson told Global News that the fire, which occurred on the west side of the water park, appears to have started near a « pump » structure before spreading to a slide and a few trees.

The spokesperson said the incident may have been caused by fireworks.
Canada’s Wonderland had its Civic Holiday fireworks show around 10 p.m. Sunday, but the park said the cause remains under investigation.
The Office of the Fire Marshal was also on hand Monday to investigate the origin, cause and circumstances of the fire.
Footage from the scene shows that a section of a slide was destroyed during the incident.
