Canada’s Marino out of US Open after 3rd round loss to Zhang

Vancouver’s Rebecca Marino was eliminated from the US Open after a 6-2, 6-4 loss to China’s Zhang Shuai in the third round on Friday.
Marino led 2-1 in the first set before Zhang won the next five matches. Zhang broke love in Game 7 to go up 5-2, then converted his first set point on serve in the deciding game.
Zhang continued her winning streak, taking an early break and coming back 2-0 up in the second set. She held serve to the end and converted her first match point to end the fight in one hour three minutes.
Zhang didn’t face a break point and smashed Marino three times out of eight chances. She will then face the winner of a match between the Americans Madison Keys and Coco Gauff.
