Canada extends sanctions against Iran for ‘human rights violations’

WASHINGTON — Canada has imposed additional sanctions on Iran for its denial of the rights of women and girls and for suppressing peaceful protests, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly said in a statement Friday.
The latest sanctions target four individuals and five entities that Ottawa says are linked to Tehran’s « systematic human rights abuses » and actions that « threaten international peace and security. »
