California early childhood teacher admits using ‘gender unicorn’ to teach kids about sexual attraction

EXCLUSIVE – A Californian early childhood teacher admitted during a presentation that she used an « age-appropriate » ‘gender unicorn’ in her classroom, which included content on sexuality and gender, according to a video obtained by Fox News Digital.

Danita McCray currently works as a child development teacher at an elementary school in the Sacramento City Unified District. At a California Teachers Association (CTA) conference in 2021, McCray gave a presentation on how to integrate gender ideology in early childhood. The CTA is the strongest affiliate of the country’s largest union, the National Education Association.

« Now, early childhood is 0-8 years old, so it’s kind of like kindergarten to grade three…And the goal…of this workshop is to provide you with positive strategies to support the transgender and gender non-conforming children, » McCray said. .

During the professional development session, McCray recommended that early childhood teachers introduce transgender to toddlers. For example, she said they should incorporate a « gender unicorn » worksheet into their classrooms.

The « gender unicorn » deals with sexuality, gender identity, gender expression and romantic attraction. Other terms, according to the educator, were « relevant » to the age group, including « sexual orientation » and « gender. »

One of the teachers asked McCray if the toddlers were too young for these conversations. « I did research. I got my doctorate. Kids aren’t too young at five. Kids understand gender as young as three. »

Fox News Digital contacted the district and they said they would review her comments to determine if she violated policy.

« The District will review comments made at a conference and determine whether they are in accordance with District policies or were made outside the scope of the employee’s duties, » a spokesperson said.

The policy « strongly supports the rights of transgender and gender nonconforming students » to « ensure a safe and civil environment, » the district said.

« I thought it would be a great tool that you can use with your students, » McCray said of the « gender unicorn. »

« You can download them and you can tell them about it. And of course it’s age-appropriate, » she said. “And even at five years old, you can ask them, are you a girl or a boy?… and you explain to them. Yes, you were born a girl or a boy, but you may not feel that way.

“There is a fine line between promoting understanding of transgender in older children and adults and instilling cultism in young children. The line is between free speech and grooming,” a- she declared.

“Instead of being the gatekeeper against toxic fads in education, radical teacher-activists actively rob America’s young and vulnerable of their childhood innocence by obsessing over dangerous gender ideology. What’s worse is that such activism is encouraged, endorsed and sponsored by teachers’ unions, » she added.

McCray said she includes children’s books about transgender in her classroom, such as « I Am Jazz, » to help children understand the concept. Another gender nonconformity book she uses is “Sparkle Boy,” then she described giving the class a project with sparkles to make the book tangible.

At one point, McCray was asked if she pushes toddlers to identify with a sexuality or a gender identity.

« The attitude with which you set the tone in your class represents the class. So in my class… There’s no boys’ toilets, no girls’ toilets. So I’ve already set the tone and I don’t ask them…do you want to play with that doll?Everything is open to everyone and by everyone to be yourself.

However, if kids in the class say certain toys are for a specific gender, McCray said she would shut them down.

« It’s amazing how kids do that, and they check on each other about it. If they say something… [that] you learn at home. Boys do that, girls do that. But I closed that in my class. I don’t allow children to do that. »

She added that if parents don’t like the way she runs her class, they have the « option to go to another class ».
