Burned bodies found in Summerland linked to deadly pursuit by Abbotsford police: RCMP


RCMP Southeast District Major Crimes Unit links two fatal incidents over the weekend in Summerland and Abbotsford, B.C.

Investigators say the discovery of human remains inside a burning vehicle in Summerland on Saturday and the police chase in Abbotsford on Sunday – where the driver and passenger were killed – are linked.

The RCMP did not specify the nature of the connection, but say they believe that the two people in the burned vehicle were murdered.

“The RCMP investigation into the homicide is ongoing, including identifying the victims and determining the extent of the stolen vehicle’s involvement. No further details will be released at this time,” the statement said. BC South East District Major Crimes Unit in a statement.

Firefighters discovered two burning bodies inside a car parked on Garnet Valley Road near Summerland, BC on the morning of Saturday August 6th.

The following day, a stolen vehicle in Abbotsford was reported to police as being linked to human remains.

Police attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, an Acura Integra, resulting in a chase.

The stolen vehicle lost control and crashed, killing both the driver and the passenger.

The British Columbia Office of Independent Investigations, which examines police interactions where people are killed or seriously injured, also investigates police actions involving the pursuit.
