Building collapses in Daytona Beach Shores as Tropical Storm Nicole approaches Florida

On Wednesday, Daytona Beach Shores police began evacuating structures along the shoreline that were deemed unsafe as Tropical Storm Nicole tracked east from Florida.

FOX 35 News has captured footage of an ocean security building on the beach that has already partially collapsed near the shoreline.

Officials say many buildings along the shores of Daytona Beach have already been damaged by Hurricane Ian and are now at greater risk of severe damage from the impending storm.

Authorities are trying to evacuate people from the Daytona Beach Shores area at 4 p.m. Wednesday, and Volusia County has a mandatory evacuation by 10 a.m. Wednesday for residents.

Tropical Storm Nicole made landfall in the Bahamas late Wednesday morning with maximum winds up to 70 mph.

Nicole is expected to reach hurricane strength on Wednesday as she looks out over Florida’s already battered east coast.

A seawall in Daytona Beach collapsed into the ocean on Wednesday morning as the incoming tropical storm brought powerful waves to the shoreline.

Nicole is expected to weaken as it moves through Florida and the southeastern United States Thursday through Friday, and is likely to become a post-tropical cyclone by Friday evening over the central states of Atlantic.
