Bruins’ David Krejci quits after taking the stick to the head

Bruins center David Krejci, who left Boston’s home game against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, was ruled out for the remainder of the game after being hit in the head with a stick.

The team announced that Krejci had an upper body injury.

During the second period, Krejci dropped a pass to a teammate in the defensive zone as he skated down the right side. Detroit forward Michael Rasmussen checked Krejci into the boards and his stick hit Krejci in the head during play.

Krejci immediately skated to the bench, and he didn’t return for the rest of the period or the start of the third.

Krejci, 36, has two goals and six assists in eight games this season. During his 16 NHL seasons, all with Boston, he had 217 goals and 521 assists in 970 games.
