Browns Trade Veteran Qb Joe Flacco in Bengals

The Cleveland Browns finished the last chapter of their bizarre quarterback History by translating the veteran Joe Flacco and a sixth round to the Bengals of Cincinnati for a fifth round.

Flacco, 40, was no longer in the Browns plans after being put in the bench for the Dillon Gabriel recruit before their defeat of week 5 against the Vikings of Minnesota in London. Cleveland will probably promote Bailey Zappe from his training team, and we will see later in the week if the recruit Sheder Sanders would go from the emergency quarter or if Zappe will become the main backup.

This is the first time that the Browns and Bengals have concluded an agreement. Obviously, this will set up memories of the 2017 trade deadline and the almost-deal strange between the teams when the Browns coach of the time, Hue Jackson, wanted the quarter-Arrière AJ McCarron, and McCarron were informed that he was sent to Cleveland, but no document was exchanged or finalized before the deadline for 4 p.m.

Sashi Brown, who now directs commercial operations for the Baltimore Ravens, but then directed the football operation of the Browns, did not denounce the documents in time, and the trade has never crossed.

Flacco has shown over the years that he could learn an offense for a few days and that he can launch it deeply. With Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in good health and the Jake Browning offensive having struck a wall, the addition of Flacoco is logical for Bengals.

Browns and Bengals no longer play before the final of the season.

Why have the Bengals chose Flacco

Bengals had to do something. They discussed several quarters in the last 48 hours. The current plan with Browning has collapsed since he took over. Flacco’s experience offers the possibility of arriving and quickly digesting the system in the middle of the season and starting as quickly as possible. It probably starts against Green Bay on Sunday (a team that Flacco has already beat this year).

Too often under Browning in recent weeks, the ball did not go where it needed, whether it was a quick verification, the shot obvious at the bottom of the field or by throwing the ball under pressure. Flacco brings experience to put the ball in the appropriate places and, in particular, in the hands of players like Chase and Higgins. The previous management was not durable. Flacco brings a little hope. – Paul Dehner Jr., Bengals writer

Why Flacco is a worrying choice

FLACCO provides minimum mobility in the pocket. The offensive line of Bengals is particularly mediocre. It looks like a dangerous combination for effective offensive football as well as for physical well-being.

All eyes turn to coach Zac Taylor, the offensive coordinator Dan Pitch and the offensive line to schematize and execute ways to keep Flacoco cleaner in the pocket. The pressure has traditionally led to gifts in his career, and these interceptions are a large part of the reason why Browning is no longer the starter. Can cincinnati keep Flacoco standing? It is a big and big question. – Dehner

Why do Bengals had to do something

AFC North is achievable. It is possible – if not likely – that nine victories are enough. The AFC, as a whole, does not seem overwhelming. Cincinnati has a 2-3 sheet with a calendar that clearly lightens once it has passed this week. If Flacco can bring juice to the offense, it could be enough to keep Bengals hunting until the end of December, when Joe Burrow could return from his toe injury.

Everything they had to abandon was an exchange of choice of day 3. It is a chance that you took each time that there was even a slight chance that it could end in January football. – Dehner

Why the Browns took the step

The Browns do not completely blame Flacco for their offensive difficulties during the first month of the season. But something had to give, and a change of quarterly some time before Thanksgiving was inevitable.

So the change continues here, and the Browns coach Kevin Stefanski must hope that Gabriel will be able to obtain more aid from his offensive line and pass sensors than Flacco. In Gabriel’s first departure on Sunday, familiar problems were presented in defeat against Minnesota. – Zac Jackson, writer Browns
