LONDON — Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is a “big fan” of the independence of the Bank of England and its responsibility to determine inflation policy, she said on Sunday.

Truss, favorite to be named leader of the ruling Conservative Party and next British prime minister on Monday, had raised concerns during a leadership race to replace Boris Johnson by promising to review the Bank of England’s mandate.

“I strongly believe in the independence of the Bank of England,” she told the BBC’s “Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg” show. “We have to allow the Bank of England to do this job,” she said when asked if it was the Prime Minister’s job to bring rising inflation under control.
