A white arctic wolf named Boo who had been on the loose in Port Colborne since Tuesday, police said, was shot and killed.
Niagara police say an officer shot and killed the wolf Wednesday night.
They say the wolf was spotted Wednesday near a residence with farm animals.
According to a press release, the Niagara SPCA has been contacted but has not yet arrived on the scene. Police said they tried to recover the wolf alive, but were unsuccessful.
“Out of concern for the safety of these animals, as the wolf was potentially dangerous, an officer discharged a firearm and fatally shot the wolf.”
On Tuesday, the wolf named “Boo” had dug out of her enclosure at a private residence, according to Const. Philippe Gabin.
“Initial investigation determined that a white wolf was rescued from an area of northern Ontario and was residing west of Port Colborne,”
Police said they are investigating the residence where Boo was being held and her remains are currently at the Niagara SPCA.
