Polling for the Maharashtra municipal corporation elections, including that of the crucial and cash-rich Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), will be held on January 15, 2026, in a single phase in 29 municipal corporations.

The counting of votes and the announcement of the results are scheduled for January 16, 2026.

With more than a million voters expected, authorities are urging residents to check their details in advance, as only those whose names appear on the final electoral roll will be allowed to vote.
Key Details of BMC Elections 2026

The BMC, which has 227 members, is widely considered to be India’s largest and richest civic body. Around 1,700 candidates are in the fray for the 2026 civic elections, including 879 women and 821 men, according to news agency PTI.

The total number of candidates marks a significant drop of over 25% compared to the previous elections in 2017, when 2,275 candidates contested, including 1,190 men, 1,084 women and one transgender candidate, according to PTI.

Why checking your name on the electoral list is important

Election officials stressed that voters must confirm their registration on the final electoral list to avoid last-minute problems on election day. Unregistered persons will not be allowed to vote.

Steps to check your name in BMC electoral roll

Voters can check their contact details via several official platforms:

Step 1: Maharashtra State Election Commission Portal

Visit mahasecvoterlist.in and search using your full name or EPIC (Voter ID) number. The same link can also be accessed through the “Election” section on mcgm.gov.in.

Step 2: National Voter Services Portal (NVSP)
Go to voters.eci.gov.in, select the option to search your name in the voters list and enter your EPIC number.

Step 3: Voter Helpline App
Voters can also use the Election Commission’s Voter Helpline app, available at eci.gov.in/voter-helpline-app/.

The same steps would also apply to voters in Maharashtra’s 29 municipal corporations.

What details you need to check

Once registered, voters can view key information such as serial number, polling station address, ward number and room or building details.

Although a printed copy or screenshot of the voter’s ballot may be helpful in the office, it does not serve as proof of identity.

Additionally, voters must bring a valid photo identification proof, such as Aadhaar card, PAN card or passport, to the polling station.
