Gurriel was suffering from left wrist pain and was available on the bench, but did not play as the Blue Jays won Game 1 of the series 4-0 at PNC Park on Friday night.

The native of Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, is cutting .290/.341/.397 with five home runs and 51 RBIs this season.

Raimel Tapia will start in center field in place of George Springer, who will be Toronto’s designated hitter. Springer went 0 for 5 from the plate in Friday’s win.

Right-hander Trevor Richards will take the mound for the Blue Jays while the Pirates send in right-hander Johan Ovideo.
