Bihar Sir: The rollers of voters shrink sharply in 2025, women affected in a disproportionate manner

The Bihar’s electoral lists experienced a significant contraction in 2025, the state losing more than 3.8 million voters between January 1 and September 30. The enumeration of voters increased from 78 million at the start of the year – when the special revision of the revision (SSR) was published – at 74.1 million at the time when the special intensive revision (SSR) was finalized.

The drop was not uniform through the sexes. Male voters increased from 40.7 million in January to 39.2 million in September – a decrease of 3.8%. The drop in voters was higher: from 37.2 million to 34.9 million, a drop of 6.1%. In absolute number, 1.55 million men have been removed from rolls, against 2.27 million women – which means that almost 60% of all cuts during the SIR process were women, Hindustan Times reported.

This sex imbalance is obvious in several major districts.

Muzaffarpur: Voter counts increased from 3.41 million to 3.29 million, a decrease of more than 122,000. Male voters dropped by 3.4% and voters by 3.9%.

Madhubani: Rolls went from 3.33 million to 3.1 million, a loss of 227,000. Voters experienced an 8.2%drop, while male voters dropped by 5.5%.

PatnaThe largest state district per electorate has increased from 5 million to 4.81 million. Men dropped by 3.5%, women by 4.1%.

Samastipur: The roles contracted from 3.08 million to 2.92 million. Women’s registrations dropped by 6.7%, men of 3.8%.

In some districts, the disparity is even more pronounced:

Gopalganj: Total voters dropped 11.3%from 2.03 million to 1.8 million. Voters decreased by almost 15%, while male voters fell 7.8%.

Kishanganj: Lost more than 10,000 voters; Women decreased by 11.9%, men by 5.5%.

Suppual: The basis of voters increased from 1.62 million to 1.53 million. The number of women dropped by 7%, by 3.6% of men.
