The Election Commission said on Sunday (August 24) that the documents of 98.2 per cent of voters have already been received, with eight more days to file grievances and objections to the draft voter list of Bihar published as part of the intensive revision of the voters’ list.

He pointed out that the complaint and objection deadline provides an opportunity for voters not only to rectify errors in the draft lists, but also to submit the required documents, which they may not have provided when submitting their census forms.

“As per information received from the office of the CEO of Bihar, as of today, the documents of 98.2 per cent of voters have been received,” it said.

From June 24 to August 24, in 60 days, 98.2% of people submitted their documents.

“This means an average of approximately 1.64% per day. There are still eight days until September 1 and only 1.8% of voters remain to submit documents,” the statement said.

The Supreme Court has now asked election authorities to accept Aadhaar or any of the 11 listed documents from people seeking to be included in the electoral roll.

The Election Commission has requested the Supreme Court to trust it to carry out the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar.
