SASKATOON — BHP says it is working to bring its Jansen potash mine into service ahead of schedule.

The company says it is working to advance the first phase of production from the Saskatchewan mine to 2026.

When BHP announced last year that it was moving forward with the project, the company said it would not be operational until 2027.

However, in an operational review released on Tuesday, the company says the project is on track and it is working to start production ahead of its original schedule.

BHP also says it is evaluating options to accelerate the second stage of the project.

The Jansen mine, located about 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon, is expected to produce about 4.35 million tonnes of potash per year with potential for further expansion.
