CRANBROOK, B.C. — The pilot of a tanker contracted to the British Columbia Forest Fire Service was forced to crash-land on Tuesday due to a engine failure.
BC Wildfire Service executive director Ian Meier said Conair’s 802 Air Tractor Fireboss Skimmer suffered the failure while working on the Connell Ridge fire near Cranbrook.
The forced landing went well and the pilot was taken to hospital for medical evaluation.
The statement said the BC Wildfire Service is providing all possible assistance to the pilot and Conair, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
The Connell Ridge Wildfire currently covers approximately 150 hectares.
