BC Wildfire Service warns of several out of control fires

The BC Wildfire Service warns of several out-of-control wildfires, several of which have resulted in evacuation orders.

The Regional District of Squamish-Lillooet issued an order Saturday afternoon for properties in Election Zone B due to the Downton Creek Wildfire, which is burning about 18 kilometers south of Lillooet.

The Peace River Regional District has also issued an evacuation order for the Battleship Mountain and Carbon Lake area, concerned about the growing Battleship Mountain Fire.

The 105 square kilometer blaze is burning out of control about 50 miles from Hudson’s Hope, and the service tweeted on Saturday that it was showing significant growth due to wind.

An area restriction order has been issued for the area surrounding the Bearhole Lake fire, approximately 30 kilometers southeast of the community of Tumbler Ridge.

Environment Canada has issued special air quality statements for much of eastern British Columbia due to the smoke.

This report from The Canadian Press was first published on September 4, 2022.
