The 6’7″ athlete played the past five seasons with the University of Richmond Spiders in Virginia, averaging 8.9 points, 1.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 155 games per outing. , while hitting 55.2% of his shots. In 2020-21, Cayo became the 50th Richmond player to reach 1,000 career points. He finished his college career as the 25th leading scorer in college history with 1,385 points and is ranked fourth in program history in field goal percentage.
