Quarterback Baker Mayfield will start in the Carolina Panthers’ preseason opener against the Washington Commanders on Saturday afternoon

Heading into the regular season, it’s unclear whether Mayfield or Sam Darnold will take on the starting QB role for the Panthers.

The Panthers acquired Mayfield on July 6 in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.

Mayfield, who was drafted first overall by the Browns in 2018, threw for 3,010 yards and 17 touchdowns with 13 interceptions last season.
