GLASGOW, UK — Australia reached the final of the Billie Jean King Cup on Saturday, beating Britain 2-1 after a decisive doubles win.
Storm Sanders had a point on the board in singles before she and Sam Stosur won 7-6(1), 6-7(5), 10-6 over Alicia Barnett and Olivia Nicholls.
On Sunday, Australia will play Switzerland, who beat the Czech Republic 2-0.
Sanders beat Heather Watson 6-4, 7-6(3) before Harriet Dart evened things up by beating Ajla Tomljanovic 7-6(3), 6-2.
Australia is trying to win the event once known as the Fed Cup for the eighth time.
The country most recently triumphed in 1974. Australia lost in the final in 2019.
Switzerland also suffered a defeat in the final recently. She lost against Russia in 2021.
On Saturday, Viktorija Golubic defeated Karolina Muchava 6-4, 6-4 while Belinda Bencic beat Karolina Pliskova 6-2, 7-6 (6).
