Augmented reality could completely change the way you shop, but don’t expect it to drastically change where you do.

For a second there, it looked like brick-and-mortar shopping would become a permanent casualty of the pandemic. E-commerce business has exploded. Platforms like Shopify have allowed physical stores to move online and consumers to purchase goods with just a few clicks. But nothing may quite compare to the ability to touch, feel, and try before you buy. The technology will inevitably fill in some of the gaps, but much of its usefulness could actually be found in physical stores.
