Audi will team up with Sauber for entry into Formula 1 in 2026

HINWIL, Switzerland — German manufacturer Audi has chosen Formula 1 team Sauber as a partner for its entry into the championship in 2026.

Sauber said in a statement Wednesday that Audi also plans to acquire part of the Sauber Group, although no financial details or timelines were disclosed.

It was also not determined whether Audi will have its own team or serve as an engine manufacturer for the Swiss team.

The agreement linking Alfa Romeo as main sponsor to Sauber will end at the conclusion of the season. Sauber currently sits sixth (out of ten) in the constructors’ championship, one point ahead of Aston Martin with three races to go.

Sauber will continue to use Ferrari engines until 2025.
