Chicago, like all of Illinois, has a strict control of firearms. These controls include a “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, a red flag law, a 72 -hour waiting period on firearm purchases, a ban on hidden transport in public transport and a requirement for identification card for firearms (FITI).

(The requirement of the Féid card obliges any owner of potential firearms to obtain a state police card from the state police before having a firearm.)

In addition to orders at the state level, Chicago is in the county of Cook, which has its own ban on “assault weapons” as well as the ban on “high capacity” magazines.
