The Alberta Police Watchdog is investigating a police shooting in Calgary on Friday night that sent a man to hospital with serious injuries.
Around 10 p.m., Calgary police were called to the 1500 block of 35th Street SE in the Radisson Heights neighborhood after residents reported a man carrying weapons and acting erratically, it said. the police.
Police met the man when he arrived at the scene, but the “rapidly changing dynamics” of the situation led an officer to fire his weapon, police said.
The man received medical treatment at the scene, but paramedics sent him to hospital in a critical but stable condition.
No officers were injured in the incident.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating the shooting, according to Calgary police.
In accordance with the Alberta Police Act, ASIRT investigates occurrences where serious injury or death may have been caused by police, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct, such as sexual assaults and obstruct justice.
