Arrests and killings drive Afghan troops once allied with US into hiding

KABUL—The Taliban appear to have launched a campaign to locate former Afghan members of US-backed military and intelligence units, according to colleagues, relatives and a network of US veterans trying to help them.
Former Afghan soldiers have been increasingly arrested, missing or killed since the Taliban took power last August. The aim, people say, is to prevent troops from joining an opposition group that has taken root in the northeast.
