Argentines show support for VP after attempted gun attack


BUENOS AIRES—Thousands of Argentines gathered in the capital and football matches were canceled on Friday in a show of support for the vice president Cristina Kirchnera day after a man pointed a gun in his face and pulled the trigger in what authorities said was a failed assassination attempt.

A 35-year-old Brazilian resident of Argentina was arrested and refused to give a statement to a judge as he was formally charged with attempted aggravated homicide on Friday evening. The weapon did not discharge and Ms. Kirchner was not injured.
