Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday (August 29) demanded an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after a purported video from his ‘Constituent Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar showed a man using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother.

Addressing an event in Guwahati, Shah claimed that Gandhi’s brand of political gaslighting “hit rock bottom” with what he called the “Ghuspaithiye Bachao Yatra (Save Infiltrators Yatra)” in Bihar.

“Rahul Gandhi should apologize if he has any shame left. The nation looks at him and his party with disgust,” Shah said, after inaugurating the new Brahmaputra wing of the Raj Bhawan in Assam.

Shah, along with other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, had also criticized Gandhi on Thursday, August 28, after the video surfaced from the Darbhanga leg of Yatra.

The Congress leader, along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Tejashwi Yadav of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), had left for Muzaffarpur on a motorcycle from the same place, news agency PTI reported.

Infiltration and democracy

The Home Minister further alleged that the yatra was designed to protect the Congress vote bank.

“The Ghuspetiya Bachao Yatra is to protect the vote bank of the Congress, but in any democracy, elections are the soul. How can a nation be safe if infiltrators are allowed to pollute the system?” Shah said.

“Congress politics is negative… It has crossed all limits with abuse against the Prime Minister and his late mother from the platform of his yatra in Bihar,” he added.

Affirming the global recognition of Prime Minister Modi, Shah remarked, “Prime Minister Modi is celebrated across the world, and no amount of abuse can stop the lotus from blooming. »

Development projects in Assam

During his two-day visit to Assam, Shah inaugurated the Brahmaputra wing of the Raj Bhawan, which he termed “historic, reflecting the journey of the northeast region from struggle to the concept of Astalakshmi”.

He also launched the National Cyber Crime Lab – North East at Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, built at a cost of ₹45 million.

Shah also inaugurated and laid the foundation for ITBP, SSB and Assam Rifles projects, including new housing complexes, barracks and hospitals.
