Twenty years ago, Khina Bista’s husband, Amit Karki, first visited Qatar. “Honestly, I haven’t seen him much since we got married twelve years ago. I raised our two children at home, but they never knew their father and now he is dead,” says Khina Bista. After a day’s work, he complained of pain and was taken to hospital by his colleagues. “He was dead when they arrived. We were told it was a heart attack,” says Khina Bista. The family received 700,000 Nepalese rupees (5,300 euros) from the authorities, and an additional 1.4 million rupees (10,600 euros) from life insurance.
