Americans with ALS look to Canada for a promising drug the US hasn’t approved

Approved by Canada Amylyx Pharmaceuticals Inc. the new drug for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis last week. Now some American patients with the deadly neurodegenerative disease, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, are considering a trip north to get the drug, Albrioza. The drug is not approved in the United States

William Woods, a 75-year-old retired doctor in Atlanta who was diagnosed with ALS in 2019, is contacting Canadian doctors who could help him get Albrioza. “There’s a lot to figure out,” he said, “but I’m confident I’ll find someone I can go to.”
