American air travelers are experiencing a second day of delays and cancellations, as the government closure causes aggravation of air traffic controllers.
Tuesday evening, flight delays struck even more airports, the cities of Nashville, Dallas, Chicago and Newark particularly affected.
On Monday, air traffic control at Hollywood Burbank airport in California was unmanned for almost six hours and managed remotely due to staff shortages.
Transport Secretary Sean Duffy said some air traffic controllers are calling for patients while closing, now in his seventh day, adds stress to workers. He estimated that the staff sometimes fell to 50% in certain regions.
Air traffic controllers are considered essential workers and should operate without salary during government closings.
About 3,200 American flights were delayed on Tuesday afternoon, according to Flightaware.
Endowment problems on Monday affected flights to Newark, Phoenix, Denver, Las Vegas and Burbank Airport, causing delays from 40 minutes to 60 minutes, according to flight data.
Tuesday evening, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a field time at the O’Hare airport in Chicago. It is not known when the delay is planned to end.
Nashville and Dallas also experienced delays on Tuesday, according to the FAA.

“What they don’t need is the fatigue of treating this work while being in the short term, working six days a week, 10 hours a day,” he continued. “Now they are worried when they are paid.”
