Alyssa Morales has her face burned in a fire in Philadelphia

A Philadelphia woman has had her face burned after being set on fire in a horrific park attack, police said.

Alyssa Morales, 36, remains in a medically induced coma after suffering second and third degree burns to more than 60% of her body last Thursday night.

“She will live, but she will have permanent damage,” her heartbroken mother, Leah Ann Morales, told CBS3.

“She’s going to have to have a new face. I say, she’ll never have the face she was born with, and they said that’s the hardest part when she can look in the mirror and see a different face looking at her.

Morales was in too much pain to identify herself when she was rushed to hospital – and had to be listed as Jane Doe for two days before her family was alerted, according to a GoFundMe page set up by a friend.

Alyssa Morales is in an artificial coma after a couple she was fighting with in a park set her on fire.

Firefighters discovered the woman badly burned after being called to put out a fire in Harrowgate Park around 11.30pm.

Police, who have since launched an aggravated assault investigation, said Morales was set on fire after fighting with a man and a woman.

Witnesses told cops they saw the woman throw some kind of liquid at the victim and then set him on fire.

Alyssa Morales has third-degree burns all over her body and will need a facelift, according to her mother.

Morales was homeless and had battled drug addiction, his mother said.

“She’s never hurt anyone, just herself. She’s just a drug addict, misguided. She went to college and she fell in this hole and can’t get out of it,” said the mother.

“I’m sad, I’m broken, I’m angry, so angry,” she added. “I just want to know who did this… Who could do this?”
