In 2020, the Green Bay Packers drafted who they believe would be the heir to Aaron Rodgers’ throne as soon as possible in Jordan Love.

Naturally, Rodgers has since won back-to-back MVPs and signed throughout the 2024 season, with no signs of slowing down.

Love has had limited playing time in the NFL — he’s only started one game in which he threw for just 190 yards, and despite action in all three preseason games this year, his numbers aren’t mind-blowing (55.4 percent completion rate, 437 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions).

He wasn’t very good on Thursday either, completing 16 of 26 passes for 148 yards and one interception.

But Rodgers, who at one point was upset with Love’s selection, praised the backup quarterback after the Packers’ preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday and is looking way beyond the scoreline. of the box.

AARON RODGERS GETS PACKERS GM’S SUPPORT DESPITE JORDAN LOVE’S SELECTION

« I always go back to the little things, » Rodgers said, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette. « The readings and all, just understanding the offense, I think he’s definitely become a master of the offense. But it’s just the little things that are really going to help him level up, and he’s largely acts of footwork and small things like arm angles on running action, his goalie feints, hard action feints, running solutions and RPO play, helping to marry with the racing game. That’s what I like to see.

Head coach Matt LaFleur is also looking beyond the numbers.

« I thought there was a lot of good stuff there, » LaFleur said. « I always look at the numbers at the end and I’m like, ‘This doesn’t make sense.’ I think he did a lot of good things. We’ll take a look at the tape. I’m sure there’s always something you can clean up. »
