The decision was made by the AAP political affairs committee.
“The Political Affairs Committee announces to appoint Rajinder Gupta as a candidate for the election to the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) by elected members of the Punjab Legislative Assembly,” the party said in a statement.
Pontage is kept to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Sanjeev Arora de l’Aap, who resigned from the upper chamber after his election to the State Assembly.
Arora, whose mandate was to end on April 9, 2028, is currently a minister in the cabinet of Punjab led by chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The emeritus president of the Trident group, GUPTA, recently resigned from his post as vice-president of the State Economic Policy and Planning Board and as chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Kali Devi Temple, fueling speculations according to which the AAP could make it work for bridging.
The AAP benefits from an overwhelming majority in the State Assembly of 117 members.
In June, AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal set up speculation that he entered the Rajya Sabha of Punjab.
Kejriwal’s decision not to throw his hat into the ring after the Rora has won the bridging of the western assembly of Ludhiana.
After the announcement of the name of Arora for the ByPoll of Ludhiana West, the opposition said that Kejriwal would enter Rajya Sabha in his place.
AAP has retained the siege of Ludhiana West with Arora beating his nearest rival, Bharat Bhushan Ashu of the Congress, by 10,637 votes.
Pontage was made necessary by the death of the AAP Gurpreet Bassi Gogi seated department in January.
