A trio of cops in 2021 targeted Hamilton drive-by homicide

Hamilton Homicide detectives have arrested two men and a minor in connection with a brazen broad daylight shooting that killed a high school student.

On September 24, 2021, at approximately 4:35 p.m., 18-year-old Yua Blut Kaw was shot dead on the sidewalk in the area of Cannon St. E. and Barnesdale Ave. N. in the east of the city.
Kaw – a student at Bernie Custis High School – was walking when he was approached by a dark-colored four-door sedan. Several shots were fired from the car, hitting and killing him.
He was later pronounced dead in hospital. Cops at the time called the shooting targeted.
Three suspects were arrested Thursday after search warrants were executed in Hamilton and Ottawa with the assistance of the Ottawa Police Service.
Nejib Ahmed Nour, 27, and Abdaziz Ibrahim Omer, 20, both of Hamilton, are charged with first degree murder. A 17-year-old man is also charged with first degree murder.

« They [Kaw’s family] loved him very much and they are very distraught,” Det. sergeant. Jim Callender said The Hamilton Spectator at the time. « They’re looking for answers just as much as the police…they don’t understand what happened and it scares them. »
Kaw’s murder was the 15th homicide in Hamilton’s record year for murders. His death was the second day killing in a month.
