A nice nest egg for Andrew Peeke

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed defenseman Andrew Peeke to a three-year, $8.25 million contract extension on Wednesday.

He could have become a restricted free agent next summer. He will receive a base salary of $825,000 this season before starting his next contract which will earn him an average of $2.75 million annually.
Peeke, 24, has three goals and 18 assists for 21 points in 115 career National League games. The 34th overall pick in the 2016 draft had 15 points in 82 games during the most recent campaign, while posting a minus 14 and recording 60 penalty minutes. He mostly set personal highs with 191 hits and 169 blocked shots, averaging more than 21 minutes on the ice.
