Firefighters were called around 1 a.m. Sunday to go to a condo building on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in Brossard. They came across a horror scene and contacted the police.

If the fire turned out to be minor, the first responders nevertheless discovered a real carnage on the spot.

The co-owner of the residence, Synthia Bussières, 38, was violently stabbed there, while her two children aged 2 and 5 were drowned, according to our information.

The paramedics dispatched to the scene tried everything to resuscitate the victims, in vain. The moments leading up to their transport to the hospital left some neighbors devastated.

“It broke my heart. They tried to save one of the children for at least 25 minutes. It was horrible, ”says Jason Crad, who saw the emergency vehicles arrive one after the other.

Important Witness

Through this commotion, an important witness in this case was found at the scene by the authorities.

It would be Mohamad Al Ballouz, the co-owner of the apartment.

The latter had to be hospitalized for injuries that were not life-threatening and he was unable to meet with investigators on Sunday.

« We wait [avant de lui parler]to be sure to have an exchange that goes well with him,” said François Boucher, spokesperson for the Longueuil agglomeration police department (SPAL).

Mr. Al Ballouz, 35, has no criminal history.

This could be the third feminicide in greater Montreal in less than two weeks.

« You never know what’s going on in people’s lives, but it’s very amazing, » said the Log a neighbor who says she spoke to the mother and her two children several times.

“It looked like a very normal family,” continues Alain Rousseau, 61, who claims to have seen the little ones riding bikes in front of their residence last spring.

Shock wave

The condo where the tragedy occurred is also for sale at a cost of $725,000, according to the Centris site.

Residents of this wealthy neighborhood were unable to conceive that such a tragedy would take place very close to their home.

« It’s quiet [le quartier]. It does not brew here, ”argues for her part Hélène Landry, who lives with her spouse in a tower located opposite the crime scene.

“You think at the amount you pay here, you’re in a good neighborhood. But you never know!” Jason Crad sighs.
