A man who barricaded himself died in a condo in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines

SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, Que. — A 36-year-old man died Saturday, after earlier in the day he barricaded himself and allegedly made suicidal remarks. However, the authorities failed to contact him before finding his lifeless body in a condo in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, in the Laurentians.

The Terrebonne/Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines/Bois-des-Filion intermunicipal police department went to Place du Clair-Bois around 10 a.m. The man was alone and possibly armed.

Residents of the area were evacuated and police secured the perimeter. Some businesses were also closed and evacuated. Montée Gagnon has been closed to traffic between boulevard Gibson and rue des Entreprises.

Attempts to communicate with the man in distress were attempted, without success. Assistance from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) tactical intervention group was requested at the scene.

The lifeless body of the man was located in a condo around 4 p.m. He was transported to the hospital center where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.

Investigators and forensic identification technicians were dispatched to the scene to analyze the scene and to meet with witnesses. The investigation is continuing to determine the causes and circumstances of the event.
