A goal and an assist for Nyman in a 3-0 win for the Finns


MONCTON, NB — Kraken prospect Jani Nyman had a goal and an assist as Finland beat the Latvians 3-0 at the World Junior Hockey Championship on Thursday.

Niko Huuhtanen and Konsta Kapanen also scored for Finland, while Jani Lampinen made 17 saves.

Nyman was drafted in the second round by Seattle this year, 49th overall.

Patriks Berzins blocked 26 shots for Latvia, which is 0-2-1.

In Group B, the Finns are still in first place with two wins and a tiebreaker loss.

Finland will conclude the preliminary round with a duel against the United States on Saturday. Latvia, bottom of Group B, will play against Slovakia on Friday.

Sweden 3 Czech Republic 2 (overtime)

Ludvig Jansson scored his second goal of the game in overtime as Sweden remained unbeaten after three games.

Fabian Wagner also hit the mark for Sweden, who lead Group A with eight points, thanks to two wins in regulation time and a tiebreaker.

David Jiricek and Jiri Tichacek replied for the Czech Republic, who follow in second place with seven points (two wins in regulation and a loss in a tiebreaker).

Sweden will conclude their round robin with a duel against Canada, while the Czech Republic still have to face Germany. Both games will be presented on Saturday.

United States 5 Switzerland 1

Jimmy Snuggerud scored two goals and the United States defeated Switzerland 5-1.

Tyler Boucher, Logan Cooley and Luke Hughes also scored for the Americans, who rebounded from a 6-3 loss to Slovakia on Wednesday.

Attilio Biasca was Switzerland’s only goalscorer.

American goaltender Trey Augustine stopped 18 shots. On the Swiss side, Alessio Beglieri stopped 37 shots.

The United States now sit second in Group B with two wins and a loss. Switzerland follow in third with two overtime wins and one loss.

Wins in regulation time are worth three points and wins in ties are worth two. One point is awarded for a tiebreaker backhand.
