A first walkabout for the leader of the PQ

On the seventh day of the campaign, the leader of the Parti Québécois Paul St-Pierre Plamondon finally offered himself a first real walkabout in the Saint-Jean-Baptiste district of Quebec during the Rainbow Party.

If several passers-by recognized him, there were also many looking for his name. “He’s the guy with the compound name of the PQ,” said a man to his wife. “Ah yes, they made jokes about him on the show next week,” replied his wife.

Surrounded by the media, a camera and a few bodyguards, the leader turned many heads.

“Excuse me, but who is this famous man? asked a lady in English to our colleague from La Presse.

“With so much security and a camera, it can only be a celebrity,” wondered a group of tourists trying to take a picture of the man who, they hoped, was a great movie star.

When the Journal explained to them who the man in question was, the group let out an “aaah ok”, while putting away their phones. The “selfie” with Daniel Radcliffe was not going to be for today.

While walking, Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon stopped at the many kiosks of organizations in the LGBTQ+ community in particular. They also shook hands with those who greeted him.

Funny fact, Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon ran into independent MP Guy Ouellette, formerly of the Liberal Party and who is not a candidate in this election. The two men hugged each other.

Among the few people gathered at Place d’Youville where a show was taking place, Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon gave a few handshakes, but only for a few minutes.

“People have come to listen to a concert, we are not going to disturb them”, he slipped to the person who guided him during this activity.

The chief will therefore have waited 7 days before going to meet the population, but we are assured that this is not a precaution due to the pandemic or concern for his safety.

Priority to activists

The attaché of Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon, Laura Chouinard-Thuly explains that the priority in the first days was to go to meet the militants to launch the campaigns of the candidates.

She recalls that the leader and the candidate in Joliette Véronique Venne had walked in the streets of Joliette on day 1 of the campaign. But bad luck, on this beautiful sunny Sunday, the city seemed to have been deserted. During the week, the exercise also lends itself less well, also specifies the attached.

A few hours earlier, the chef took time with his wife and two children at the Cap-Rouge Nautical Park under the eye of the cameras of photographers and journalists.

It was also the first official family photo operation since the start of the campaign. An opportunity to fill the image banks of the media with photos of the family embarked on a huge pedal boat in the shape of a pink flamingo for the occasion.
