A driver dies in a collision in Montérégie

SAINT-ALEXANDRE, Qc — A driver died in a collision early Friday evening in Montérégie.
The man in his thirties lost control of his vehicle while driving north on Route 227, in Saint-Alexandre, a municipality near Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
According to initial information from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the driver left his lane and ended up heading south, where he hit another vehicle.
“He would have made a false maneuver and would then have found himself losing control before going to hit another vehicle which was traveling in a southerly direction”, explained Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay, spokesperson for the SQ.
The three occupants of this second vehicle were transported to a hospital center, where there was no fear for their lives.
However, the driver of the first car was confirmed dead in hospital. He had suffered « serious injuries », according to the police force.
The accident occurred at the end of the overpass over Highway 35, an area where the speed limit is 90 km/h.
The SQ will conduct an investigation to find out what led to the loss of control of the motorist.
A portion of Route 227, between Chemin de la Grande-Ligne and Rang Sainte-Anne, was also closed to traffic.
