OTTAWA — Drake Batherson scored twice in the second period and the Ottawa Senators scored five unanswered goals on Thursday to cruise to a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals.

Shane Pinto broke the 2-2 deadlock in the sixth minute of the third period.

First choice of the second round in 2019, Pinto obtained a goal in a third consecutive game.

Tyler Motte and Alex DeBrincat completed in an empty net.

Anton Forsberg blocked 22 shots for the Senators, who outshot the Senators 15-5 in the second period.

For the Caps, Anthony Mantha and TJ Oshie scored on the power play in the first period.

Quebecer Mantha scored a third goal this season at 10:35. Dmitry Orlov passed him to the left circle and Mantha beat Darcy Kuemper with a one-timer.

Kuemper made 39 saves for the Capitals, who had won their last two meetings.

Ottawa will prepare to host Arizona on Saturday, starting at 4:00 p.m.
