Former FBI director James Comey pleaded non -guilty in federal criminal charges in Virginia on Wednesday morning that President Donald Trump had asked.
Comey’s advocacy came as he made his first appearance in the case, where he is accused of having made a false declaration and obstruction of a Congress procedure during the testimony of a Senate committee in 2020.
Comey was arrested before the American district court of Alexandria, where his defense lawyer, Patrick Fitzgerald, said that Comey wanted a trial with jury.
Two federal prosecutors of North Carolina were responsible for managing the case of Comey, which is considered a sign that Lindsey Halligan, American interim lawyer in the Oriental District of Virginia, had trouble making prosecutors work on her own office.
Comey, after being charged at the end of September, said: “I’m not afraid”, in an Instagram video response.
“My family and I have known for years that there are costs to resist Donald Trump,” said Comey in the video.
“But we couldn’t imagine living differently. We won’t live on your knees and you shouldn’t either.”
