Speaking during a commemorative rally, CM Singh Saini told the difficulties of the uprooted communities during the division of the subcontinent. Being the third largest state in the country, the CM announced that targeted groups whose problems had long been “repressed in files” would now be recognized and would benefit from assistance.
Earlier this week, the second day of the Mosson session of the State Parliament, the chief minister said that the Haryana government would offer a job to the 121 close relatives of the people killed during the anti-Sikhs riots in 1984.
During the session, he recalled to the House that riots had broken out in the state following the assassination of Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister, causing the fire of approximately 20 Gurdwaras, 221 houses, 154 stores, 57 factories, three railroads and 85 vehicles. There were 121 dead and 58 injured in total, according to the Times of India.
The president of the Haryana Management Committee Sikh Gurdwara (HSGMC), Jagdish Singh Jhinda, praised the action as being admirable and said that, even if she occurred 40 years later, he and his committee appreciated the declaration.
On Wednesday, Singh Saini underlined the involvement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an important figure in the fight for justice, saying that he had “reopened forgotten files” and watched over that those who suffered were no longer left behind, as reported by the Ani.
He stressed that generations had been in trouble, especially in Haryana, due to the economic collapse and the loss of their livelihoods, citing the most affected “84 families”.
CM Singh Saini continued by explaining that the state administration had replied by announcing that a member of each qualified family could request aid directly from the district collector (DC). “The request will only be accepted once per family, guaranteeing an equitable distribution of rescue,” he added.
