A shooter fired on two Sheriff deputies in a Building of the Palais de Justice in Platemine, in Louisiana on Monday evening, killing one and leaving another in critical condition, the authorities said.
Charles Riley, a deputy who was a six -year veteran from the Iberville sheriff office, was killed, said Tuesday in a press release from the Sheriff Brett Sr. de the parish of Iberville, in Louisiana, in a statement.
The sheriff’s son Brett Stassi Jr., a deputy who was a 20 -year -old veteran from the office, was injured and fighting for his life in intensive care after surgery, said sheriff.
The shooter was killed at the courthouse, the state police said. It was not revealed if it had been killed by the police or had shot.
He was identified by state police as being Latrell Clark, 27, from White Castle, Louisiana. At the time of the shooting, he was reserved in a case of sexual assault. The authorities did not say how the suspect had obtained the weapon.
The Sheriff Stassi said he would rely on the state police for more details on the case.
The parish of Iberville is southwest of red baton. The building where the shooting took place also contains offices for the parish government and the sheriff.
