WASHINGTON- President Trump rocked American politics at the start of his first campaign when he for the first time qualified his rivals as enemies of the American people. But the rhetoric of its main confidants has become more extreme in recent days.

Stephen Miller, deputy chief of staff of the president, said this weekend that “an important and growing movement of left terrorism in this country” fuels a historic national schism, “protected by judges, prosecutors and prosecutors of the far left”.

“The only remedy,” said Miller, “is to use the legitimate power of the state to dismantle terrorism and terrorist networks”.

It was a maxim of an unaduminated presidential advisor who has already released the federal government in an unprecedented manner, supervising the federalization of the police forces and a large expulsion campaign questioning the fundamental principles of civil freedom.

Miller’s rhetoric intervenes in the midst of a federal repression in Portland, Oregon, where he says that the president has unlimited power to protect federal lives and property – and when Trump’s controversial adviser exploits the government’s current closure as a pretext for the massive dismissal of federal workers.

Russ Vought, director of the president’s management and budget office, plays the role of the mower in a video of AI shared by the president, showing him traveling Washington so that the bureaucrats cut themselves off during the closure.

His goal, Trump said, is to specifically target Democrats.

On Monday afternoon, we did not know exactly how many federal workers or what federal agencies would be targeted.

“We do not want to see dismissed people, but unfortunately, if this closure continues, the layoffs will be an unhappy consequence,” said the press secretary of the White House, Karoline Levitt, during a press briefing.

“A nation of constitutional law”

Karin Immergut, a federal judge appointed by Trump, said this weekend that the justification put forward by the administration to deploy troops from the Californian national guard in Portland was “simply not linked to the facts”.

“This country has a long fundamental tradition of resistance to the excess of government, in particular in the form of a military intrusion into civil affairs,” wrote Immergut, accusing the Trump administration for having tried to go around a preliminary order on its part against a federal deployment in the city.

“This historical tradition comes down to a simple proposal,” she added: “We are in a nation of constitutional law, no martial law. »»

The administration is expected to appeal to the judge’s decision, said Leavitt, while calling the judge’s decision to “detach from reality and the law”.

“We are very confident in the president’s legal authority to do this, and we are convinced that we will win on the basis of the law,” said Leavitt.

If the courts were to be placed on the side of the administration, Leavitt said that local leaders – most of whom are Democrats – should not be concerned about the possibility of long -term plans aimed at seeing their cities occupied by the army.

“Why should they worry about the fact that the federal government offers help to make their cities safer?” “Said Leavitt. “They should be concerned about the fact that at present, residents of their cities are slaughtered every night and that the president, all he tries to do is to arrange this. »»

A few moments later, Trump told journalists in the oval office that even if he did not think it was still necessary, he would be ready to invoke the insurrection law “if the courts held us back or if the governors or the mayors held us back”.

“Of course, I would do that,” said Trump. “We must make sure that our cities are safe. »»

The ACT insurrection gives the president an emergency power extended to deploy military forces in the United States if it considers it necessary to repress civil disorders. The last time it happened was in 1992, when the governor of California, Pete Wilson, asked President George HW Bush to send federal troops to help end the riots of Los Angeles which took place after the acquittal of the police following Rodney King tobacco.

Miller’s subsequent publications on social networks during the weekend have raised the challenges to existential summits, accusing Democrats to ally themselves with “national terrorists” seeking to overthrow the will of the people reflected in the electoral victory of Trump last year.

On Monday, in an interview with CNN, Miller suggested that the administration would continue to work to circumvent the orders of Immergut.

“The administration will respect the decision insofar as it affects the parties concerned,” he said, “but the president also has many options to deploy federal resources under the aegis of the American army in Portland. »»

Other Republicans have used a similar speech since the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a young conservative activist, in Utah last month.

Representative Derrick Van Orden (Wisconsin Republican) wrote that the messages from the office of the Governor of California Gavin Newsom reached “the threshold of internal terrorism”, after the Democratic governor qualified Miller as fascist on social networks. And Randy Fine representative (Florida Republican) said on Monday that Democrats demanding an extension of health services as a condition for the reopening of the government were equivalent to terrorists.

“I do not negotiate with the terrorists,” said Fine in Newsmax, “and what we have learned, whether Muslim terrorists or democrats, you have to stand up and do what it takes.”

Donor networks survey

The eagerness of the Republicans to qualify the democrats as terrorists occurs two weeks after Trump signed a decree declaring a leftist anti -fascist movement, known as antifa, as a “national terrorist organization” – a designation which does not exist under American law.

The order, which opened a new front in the battle of Trump against its political enemies, also threatened to investigate and prosecute individuals who financed “all illegal operations – in particular those involving terrorist actions – carried out by the Antifa or anyone claiming to act on behalf of the Antifa. »»

Leavitt told journalists on Monday that the administration was looking for “aggressively” who supported these operations financially.

Trump spoke of the possibility of attacking people such as George Soros, a billionaire who has supported many causes on the world around the world.

“If you look at Soros, he’s at the top of everything,” said Trump during an appearance in the oval office last month.

The White House has not yet made public the details of a formal donor investigation, but Leavitt said that administration’s efforts were underway.

“We will continue to determine who finances these organizations and this anarchy organized against our country and our government,” said Leavitt. “We are committed to discovering it.”
