Last year, Nintendo continued James Williams, a moderator of a Switch Pirates page on Reddit who published under the name of Archbox. Nintendo has now established the damages he wants from the court, and he could leave Williams with a penalty for several million dollars.
The legal complaint of Nintendo was published online (via the oat dome), and it requests $ 4.5 million because it maintains that Williams has operated several switching sites, has sold material hacks and offered switching consoles modified with hacked games. This also alleges that he refused to comply when the company sent him a prescription to stop and withdrawn. The complaint notes that Williams ceased to recognize Nintendo’s requests, which led the trial against him.
Last year, a separate report revealed how Nintendo played a detective to identify Williams as the person behind the Reddit Archbox account. Williams would have shared online personal details that helped reduce research, and also sent his visit to Nintendo for repairs. Nintendo obtained a default judgment against Williams because he did not plead his file before the court before the deadlines provided.
In 2024, the Nintendo trial managed to stop the emulator of the Yuzu switch and the 3DS Citra emulator. Nintendo has not yet filed a trial against the new Openai Sora 2, which is filled with AI Mario and Pikachu videos which seem to have been created without authorization. Nintendo is currently in a legal battle against the developer of Palworld Pocketpair. Nintendo also recently obtained a patent that could make the release of inspired games inspired by Pokémon difficult.
