The air traffic control tower at Hollywood Burbank airport is temporarily unmanned and thefts are delayed on Monday afternoon due to staff shortages in the middle of the current government, according to the Federal Aviation Authority.
The FAA provides that the airport air traffic control tower will be without staff until 10 p.m. Monday, according to spokesperson Kristen Alsop. The tower was without staff from 4:15 p.m.
Due to the government’s closure, air traffic controllers work without salary. Transport secretary Sean Duffy said on Monday that FAA saw a small increase in air traffic control workers calling for patients during closure.
At 5 p.m., outgoing flights to Hollywood Burbank airport was delayed on average two hours and 31 minutes due to staff shortages and track construction, according to the FAA. At that time, the longest delay reported was three hours and 55 minutes.
Alsop said staff shortages were the main problem that contributed to delays.
Although the air control tower is unmanned, southern California Tracon will control air traffic in airport airspace, Alsop said. This installation provides air traffic control for the arrival and departure of flights in the region.
Governor Gavin Newsom was quick to blame President Trump for the challenges of the endowment.
“Thank you, @ Realdonaldtrump! Burbank airport has no air traffic controllers from 4:15 p.m. to 10 p.m. today because of your government closure,” he said in a statement on X.
