Montgomery, ala. (AP)-Rivals armed men fired in a downtown nighttime area in the city center in the capital of Alabama on Saturday evening, killing two people and injuring 12 others in a chaotic street scene that let the authorities trying to discover who started it, the police announced.

The dead included a 43 -year -old woman, identified by police like Shalanda Williams, and a 17 -year -old child identified as Jeremiah Morris. Five of the injured were hospitalized for potentially fatal injuries, including a minor, said Montgomery police.

No one had been arrested on Sunday afternoon when the police called on the public to get information and sorted a complicated crime scene that involved several people who drew weapons in a crowd just after the University of the University of Tuskegee Football.

“We are going to do everything we can not only to stop officials, we will do anything to stop those who are connected in any way whatsoever, who knew what could have happened, who knew what could take place,” said the mayor of Montgomery, Steven Reed, at a Sunday press conference. “We are not just going to stop with people who were leaning on relaxation last night.”

The shooters “had no respect for human life,” he said.

The police examined the supervisory video, interviewed witnesses and potential suspects and tried to reconstruct a reason to explain why the shooting started.

The police were called around 11:30 p.m. to the fact that the Montgomery police chief James Graboys described as a “mass shooting” which broke out near the Hank Williams Museum, the Rosa Parks Museum and the Alabama status, within the fingertips of the routine patterns in the city center of Montgomery.

The shooting started when someone targeted one of the 14 victims, encouraging several people to shoot their own weapons and start to turn, said Graboys.

“These are two involved parts which were mainly pulled in the middle of a crowd,” said Graboys.

The shooters, he said, “did not care about the people around them when they did.”

Seven of the 14 victims were under 20 and the youngest was 16, said Graboys. At least two of the victims were armed, said Graboys.

Several weapons and cases of shell have been recovered on the scene, said Graboys.

Few details were available.

It was a particularly busy weekend in Montgomery, with the Homecoming football match of the State University of Alabama that day at the Hornet Stadium, the Alabama National Fair in progress at the Garrett Coliseum and the university match of the University of Tuskegee which has just ended in Cramton Bowl nearby.

Reed said there were police patrols within 50 feet (15 meters) when the shooting broke out. An officer was so fast to arrive at the scene that he transported a victim to the hospital before the arrival of an ambulance, said Graboys.
