A worker missing after flooding at a construction site in Mississauga on Friday has died, Peel Police say.

Police were called to the site, located at Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Drive, to a flood report around 3.30pm.

Several workers were at the site when a pipe burst and filled a chamber with water, police said.

All but one of the workers were able to get out. Firefighters pumped out water to allow a search, but police said the man was pronounced dead shortly after being located after midnight. He was 54 years old.

Roads in the immediate vicinity, where Peel Region said water and sanitary sewer upgrades were underway, have since reopened.

Peel Police say the Department of Labor has now resumed the investigation and is looking into the circumstances which led to the man’s death.

The site is located at Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Drive. (Alexis Raymon/Radio-Canada)
