Two more people died of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador last week, according to the provincial government.

One person was 80 or older, while the other was 70.

One lived in the Eastern Health Region and the other in the Western Health Region.

The total number of deaths in the province from the virus since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 is now 258.

Nine people are hospitalized with COVID-19, similar to last week and the week before, including two in intensive care.

The province also reported 205 new cases over the past week, but the numbers don’t reflect the true prevalence of the virus because the provincial government only counts cases found by testing by regional health authorities.
